John F. Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States of America. He served as President when the country was under war. Abe Lincoln was born in 1806 and grew up in the countryside as a pioneer. His mother died at a young age and he had a sister. His father married a widow that had three children and Abe Lincoln liked her very much. Every day he attended school and worked very hard on his father's farm. John F. Kennedy was born in 1917 and died in 1963. John grew up in Massachusetts in a very wealthy and politically powerful family. His father was ambassador for Great Britain and his mother was the daughter to John F. Fitzgerald, who was a congressman and major of Boston. John Kennedy was a Harvard Graduate. He was the one in the family expected to accomplish great things. JFK has 3 children, John Jr., Caroline and Patrick. John Jr. died in a plane crash, while on his way to his brother Robert's daughter Cory's wedding. Patrick died when he was 6 weeks old while JFK was in office. Caroline is the only persona live in this family. JFK's brother Robert ran for President after him but was assassinated in 1968. He was the Attorney General before this. His other brother, Ted is now the U.S. Senator for Massachusetts and also his older brother Joe was killed in World War II, flying a plane. JFK was enlisted in the Navy during World War II and was awarded for being brave. AFter the war, he got a seat in Congress in a Boston district. When he was Senator, he won a Pulitzer Prize for his book Profiles in Courage. Kennedy was elected in 1960. While he was in office, he suffered back pain from injuries from the war. Kennedy was then assassinated in 1963. One of Lincoln's first opponents was Douglas, they were running for U.S. Senate. Douglas was a two-term Senator with a great background and Lincoln was self-educated and only had one term in Congress. The odds were stacked against Lincoln's "vast moral evil" of slavery, he started to make more Republicans like him, and they thought he would be great for the Presidency in 1860. Besides Lincoln who was running was J.C. Breckinridge (Southern Democrat). John Bell (Constitutional Union) and Stephen Douglas (Northern Democrat). Lincoln won the Presidency with 180 electoral votes and 1,865,593 popular votes. Lincoln was part of the republican party. At first, that part... ...ion's stand start to arise. Looking over the evidence the Warren Report is based upon leads to that, the Commission took great liberties in smoothing over contradictions in the information and failed to follow up on evidence suggesting that Oswald had confederates. As evidence came in, the Commission went with what it believe. OPINION I can only imagine how America felt in November 1963. John F. Kennedy created this era of optimism and hope. After he died his dreams he had set for our country went along with him. America was left with sorrow and despair. No one alive then had ever imagined that would happen, not to them, not to their country. I also feel that the CIA killed JFK , just from reading Earl Warren's report, and the JFK Records Act, because some evidence is still being held back from the public and no one really knows what happen from Parkland Hospital to the autopsy room at Bethesda Naval Hospital.Was Kennedy's nody played with? I believe so. Plus i also think that there was more than one shot fired at Kennedy after watching Abraham Zapruder flim because its almost impossible that one bullet went through Kennedy and still wounded John Connally in a few places.

Introduction In this case, Iââ¬â¢ve studied the globally known semiconductor manufacturer, which is the Intel. The purpose of the study is to analyze the objectives and strategies used by Intel, SWOT analyzing and discuss major issues or problems that the company faced. About: Intel Corporation is the biggest semiconductor manufacturer in the world and has changed the global marketplace radically since it was founded in 1968. The first handheld calculators and PCs (Personal Computers) were developed through the innovation of Intelââ¬â¢s microprocessors. In the early 70ââ¬â¢s increased competition from Japanese semiconductor manufacturers had dramatically reduced the profitability of this market this made Intel to shift the companyââ¬â¢s focus to microprocessors. From the late 80s until the late 90s Intel had a 10-year period of unprecedented growth as the primary hardware supplier to the PC industry, supplying microprocessor to IBM. Intelââ¬â¢s product line of Pentium processors had become a household name. Today at least 80% of Intelââ¬â¢s processors are used in PCs globally. Their product line consists of: chipsets, motherboards, flash memory used in wireless communications, networking devices, laser printers, industrial machinery, and cellular phone base stations. Dust would contaminate the circuits during manufacturing. Solution: Intel developed ââ¬Å"clean roomsâ⬠for keeping dust out of the process. Recommendation: I agree with the decision of the company to develop ââ¬Å"clean roomsâ⬠. Now that they already have these rooms, they can now have a product that would work 101% at its best for the consumers. . 2. Etch circuit lines on silicon wafers, without having the etched lines fracture and break as the water was heated and cooled repeatedly during the manufacturing process. Solution: To ââ¬Å"dopeâ⬠the metal oxide with impurities, making it less brittle. Intel subsequently went to some lengths to keep this aspect of the manufacturing process secret from competitors for as long as possible. Recommendation: Intel is so intelligent and optimistic for its products. With this problem at that time I am pretty sure only Intel thought of this wonderful solution. With this, the challenge now is to maintain this technique or process to constantly produce ââ¬Å"qualityâ⬠products. 3. Intel underestimated Japanese threats in terms of technology which resulted to dropping off DRAM; one of their flagship product. Solution: Intel did not risk investing a new fabrication facility at a cost of $600 million that might affect the operation of its other products especially the microprocessor. Recommendation: Intel shouldââ¬â¢ve been more conscious and aware of the possibilities and facts that new entrants and competitors will always be a threat for the company. With its decision, it is kind of frustrating for the fact that the DRAM was once the best innovation and product of Intel. But the company left with no choice but to exit the DRAM business. I wouldnââ¬â¢t risk my other products to get affected by this mistake. 4. The company exited its struggling communication chip business. The workforce was cut by 20,000, while costs were reduced by $3 billion. Solution: The company did not lose sight of the need to produce processors for mobile devices. In mid-2008, Intel introduced a new line of low-power consumption chips called atom. Intel has also been making moves into the graphics chip business. Recommendation: Persistence and perseverance for your product should always be present in the company. I just commend Intel for being so flexible and how quick they are in satisfying the ever changing demands of the consumers. Study Key success factors for Intel: Management Intel placed top priority on their people, and encouraged openness, fairness, and responsibility, Intel was able to take full advantage of its workers. Mistakes The most talented and brightest people that were employed were given leverage when mistakes were made so that they would be encouraged to develop breakthrough technologies. Hard Work Moore and Noyce refused to shy away from their inexperience and being willing to do what work they needed. Also admitting their limitations, they were able to seek out qualified employees to help build the company. Competition They learned that the key to entrepreneurial success was by being in a constant state of awareness and fear of your competitors, entrepreneurs can become proactive instead of reactive, seizing new opportunities as they present themselves instead of letting them pass them by. Exclusivity By specializing and focusing on a niche market, Intel was able to not only stand out from the crowd, but to become market leader in the industry. Competitive Advantage: Expertise in Manufacturing Highest standards in high-quality clean production The company invests vast sums in R&D and manufacturing It designs quality products It is able to leverage its manufacturing capability. This means it can increase production to bring product to market in large volumes. Increasing volume and getting the product onto the market as quickly as possible are important elements in creating and maintaining a competitive advantage. It has a regular cadence (or rhythm) to the development of new products or improvements to existing ones Analysis SWOT: Strengths Intel is a globally recognized brand name and has strong brand loyalty from its consumers. Intel was the pioneer in microprocessors for PCs and memory devices. Intel is a global technology corporation and the worldââ¬â¢s largest producer of semiconductor chip, based on revenue. Intel presently has around 80% of the microprocessor market share whereas AMD has roughly 17% of the market. A pink wool knitted dress, by Ted Hughes and Sonnet XLIII by Elizabeth Barrett Browning Essays A pink wool knitted dress, by Ted Hughes and Sonnet XLIII by Elizabeth Barrett Browning Paper A pink wool knitted dress, by Ted Hughes and Sonnet XLIII by Elizabeth Barrett Browning Paper Essay Topic: Anne Sexton Poems Literature The Poems of Ted Hughes The first poem I intend to analyse is, A pink wool knitted dress. This poem is not written along conventional lines, since it does not employ the use of sonnet or stanzas of four lines. Indeed there are three lines in the first stanza while the fourth stanza could be a sonnet in itself as it consists of fourteen lines. All the other stanzas are of differing lengths as are the lengths of the lines. In terms of rhyme in many of the poems I have previously read the last word in each line often rhymes with the last word in the next line or the second next line. This sort of rhyming occurs in Barrett Browning Sonnet XLIII where the second and third lines rhyme as do the first and fourth. This pattern continues throughout the poem. Hughes writes in run on sentences, some of which carry on into the next line, in fact the style and structure of the poem reminds me more of a piece of prose than a poem. One might consider it to be reminiscent of Shakespeares blank verse it could of course also be modern style free verse. This poem itself focuses on Hughes wedding day. In the initial verses, he talks about himself, about the absence of his family, his best man who was the sexton and then about his bride. The wedding doesnt seem particularly well organized, a common characteristic of many weddings which took place in the months following the Second World War. It is so ill organized that he has to requisition the sexton as his best man. The solitary guest was the brides mother, Your mother, brave even in this, U. S foreign affairs gamble, acted all bridesmaids and all guests, even magnanimity- represented, my family. It seems they didnt have the time or money to buy their wedding clothes in Harrods! The only new item Hughes had was an umbrella. His outfit consisted of My tie- sole- drab, veteran RAF black- Was the used-up symbol of a tie? My cord jacket- thrice dyed black, exhausted, Just hanging on to it. And the bride was wearing a pink wool knitted dress. The story is told in a very low-key manner and this brings me on to a discussion of the language used. One would have expected the poet to use an elaborate, descriptive style more fitting to the occasion. He chooses not to. The words Hughes uses are purposely starkly drab. Such as smudged, sole- drab, utility, odd, spare, squeezed, and Packing children into a bus. He also uses words, which remind us of the recent war, Post war, utility, conscript, veteran, requisitioned. Because of the recent war effort clothes, di cor and furnishings were extremely grey and uniform. There are few colourful aspects of war. Despite this, humour is evident for example Hughes wanted to be married in Westminster Abbey, where the Royals are married but has to settle for the humbler St George of the Chimney Sweeps, and a borrowed best man. How can this be a love poem? The whole flavour and texture of the poem is so mundane, workaday and prosaic, just like any other day. Does this reflect Hughes innermost thoughts about his wedding? That is certainly the impression he gives me. So how is it a love poem? The answer lies in the last two stanzas where Hughes addresses his bride in language that is quite different to that used in the previous stanzas. In the second last stanza the language contains heavenly imagery, Transfigured, brimming with God, the heavens open, Riches ready to drop upon us, levitated. What a contrast to what has gone before! Not drab but uplifting and celestial. But is Hughes describing a person whom he loves or some image he sees in her? Is it what she can do for him, not what he can do for her? The last stanza seems to reflect the poets notion that his bride is crazy about him and simply cannot take her eyes off him. Nowhere in the poem does Hughes describe a similar intoxication for her. This poem is the embodiment of what Ted Hughes sees and portrays himself as a poet. Imagine what you are writing about. See it and live it Look at it, touch it, smell it Listen to it, turn yourself into it. A contrasting piece is Sonnet XLIII by Elizabeth Barrett Browning. This poem is taken from, Sonnets from the Portuguese, and is of course, number forty-three. As it is a sonnet it has the usual fourteen lines and there is a regular rhythm for which the octet is ABBA while the sestet, ABAB employs a variation. Apart from that the other features are pretty uniform and standard. All of Barrett Brownings sonnets are written in similar form. The poem has a definite rhythm e. g. n the first line certain words are stressed such as those underlined below; How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. This pattern continues throughout the poem e. g. line five. I love thee to the level of everydays. The rhythm stresses the important words such as, love, depth, breadth, height. This rhythm gives the effect of being from the heart; deep, emotional and heartfelt. The poem is totally concentrated on one theme only, love. This is quite a contrast to Ted Hughes poem, which contains black humour, a narrative, and a much lighter attitude to the relationship. I feel this poem has a religious intensity which is reflected in the uses of key words and phrases such as, depth and breadth and height, My soul can reach and also in the lines, I love thee with a love I seemed to loose, With my lost Saints A notable aspect of the poem is the fact that the title is numbered, as are the Psalms in the Book of Psalms. Furthermore, the language of this sonnet is reminiscent of the Language used in the Psalms. This idea supports my opinion that The poem expresses a certain religious intensity. The poet uses repetition for effect and emphasis, she uses the words, I love thee seven times and in the middle of the poem, she starts each of these lines with, I love thee The last three lines have a particularly spiritual effect, looking forward to love eternal after death. Browning herself suffered ill health and that she was conscious that death was never far away so this possible morbidity could arise from that feeling. It is ndoubtedly very intense. Both poems differ in many obvious ways. Ted Hughes poem is much longer, he has quite a different style and approach, his piece tells a story with a certain amount of wry humour and diversity. Only in the last part of it does Hughes concentrate on the theme Of love whereas Barrett Browning is totally concentrated on the love theme. Of course both are structurally quite different and different also in both tone and language. Hughes uses inclined, common and everyday language while Barrett Brownings is austere and devotional like the language used in a prayer. Perhaps, in the final analysis, Ted Hughes approach to ove is not quite as serious and faithful as Elizabeth Barrett Brownings. She expresses her love in depth, breadth and Height while Hughes expression of love somewhat appears to be more shallow and perhaps less sincere. Does Hughes love his bride merely because she loves him? While Barrett Browning appears to love her partner for his own sake. I prefer Ted Hughes poem, basically because I feel it is more true to life, the storyline is also interesting. This is a stark contrast to the quasi-religious intensity of Elizabeth Barrett Brownings sonnet, which I find too overpowering and totally redolent of the early Victorian ethos.

Hemp, the plant that the drug marijuana is derived from, scientifically known as cannibas sativa, was first grown in 1611. For the past decade, the prohibition of marijuana has proved to be a c olossal failure; therefore, a new approach needs to be taken. Marijuana has even now surpassed corn as Americas cash crop. Judge Whitmann Napp stated, After twenty years on the bench I have concluded that federal drug laws are a disaster. It is time to get the government out of drug enforcement. (New York Times, May 14th, 1993). Medical uses, its safety compared to other drugs, and its legal benefits require its immediate legalization. Through research, doctors have found that marijuana possesses multiple medical uses. Prohibition is limiting its medical capabilities. Research demonstrates that marijuana contains therapeutic uses, including the ability to reduce nausea and vomiting, stimulate an appetite, promote weight gain, and diminish intraocular pressure from glaucoma.
